The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is an open standards organization that develops and promotes voluntary Internet standards, particularly the standards that comprise the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP).

Standards are published as Request for Comments (RFC) documents. Anyone can submit an Internet Draft, which, through consensus, may be elevated to an RFC.
